Paver Patio Calculator
Pavers are counted per square foot, base by the ton, and sand by the bag. Enter your patio and paver size for the full material list.
Pavers per square foot
| Paver (nominal) | Pavers per sq ft |
|---|---|
| 4 × 8 in | 4.5 |
| 6 × 6 in | 4 |
| 6 × 9 in | 2.67 |
| 12 × 12 in | 1 |
| 16 × 16 in | 0.5625 |
| 24 × 24 in | 0.25 |
Based on nominal dimensions (144 ÷ face area). Many pavers have spacer nubs, so check the manufacturer's "units per sq ft" on the pallet tag. Polymeric sand coverage varies by joint width (roughly 30–75 sq ft per 50 lb bag), so check the bag.

Frequently asked questions
How many pavers do I need for a 10x12 patio?
120 sq ft × 4.5 = 540 standard 4×8 pavers, plus 5–10% for cuts, so 567–594.
How many 4x8 pavers per square foot?
4.5 (144 sq in ÷ 32 sq in).
How much polymeric sand do I need?
Roughly one 50 lb bag per 30–75 sq ft, depending on joint width. Narrow-joint concrete pavers fall at the high end of that range.
